We’re always about showing you the best and most exciting events happening around Metro Detroit; whether that’s comedy shows, dance clubs, or simply what to do this weekend. We want you to experience everything that Metro Detroit has to offer. That being said, sometimes that can get a little expensive. Our wallets might need a break every once in a while, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. Here are some fun activities in the D that won’t cost you a dime.

Detroit Institute of Art

A lot of the art inside the Detroit Institute of Art is priceless, and for Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb residents, admission is too. Those county residents receive free, unlimited general admission to view the museum’s vast collection of impressive art and exhibitions. Speaking of exhibitions, be sure not to miss this spring and summer’s events from Pop Art of the 1960s and 1970s to the opening of the expanded Asian Galleries.

Detroit Historical Museum

Families are always on the go, and the Trailblazer combines safety, comfort and accessibility to fit your family's needs. Discover the available features that make Trailblazer an ideal family SUV.

While the DIA shows history from all over the world, the Detroit Historical Museum is a great place to learn where Detroit’s roots stem from. The Midtown museum’s slogan is “Where the past is present” and that couldn’t be more true as its exhibitions and displays celebrate the city’s rich 300 year history. Upcoming events include the Jazz on the Streets of Old Detroit and Black Historic Sites Bus Tour.

Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit

The DIA and Detroit Historical Museum focus on our culture’s history, while the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, or more commonly known as MOCAD, celebrates modern art. Showcasing the most adventurous minds in visual, literary, music, and performing arts, MOCAD features diverse pieces of art and exhibitions that you can only see in one place. There is always something new and exciting to see at MOCAD, so be sure to check out their current and upcoming exhibitions.

Hamtramck Disneyland

Combining unique art with the beautiful spring and summer weather in Metro Detroit, Hamtramck Disneyland is a bucket list item for many Metro Detroiters. The yard folk art wonderland has been a staple in Metro Detroit for almost 30 years and continues to draw large crowds every summer. You can find more information on how Hatch Art is planning to maintain this unique space and how you can donate on their website.

Detroit Jazz Festival

There are countless noteworthy concerts coming to the D this summer, but one of the biggest ones won’t cost you a thing: the Detroit Jazz Festival. The celebration of Detroit’s rich jazz history takes place on the last weekend of summer and this year’s event promises to be the biggest yet. You can follow all of the announcements and updates on their website and Facebook page.
